Summer loving (and feelings!)
Summer is by far my fave season of all because of the weather, but it brings with it chaos and lots of feelings for mom, too. I am much more comfortable with a schedule! (Except when I am on vacation – anything goes!)
Ever since my boys were little, I wanted them to have the summers I had growing up – slow and easy, at the pool and hanging out with friends. And they had this for the most part, but I didn’t get to do it with them and time is fleeting. I am now the old mom saying, “they grow up so fast.” And I am sad I am missing out! Let’s face it though, they don’t want to go on organized field trips with me anymore anyways.
As a working mom I don’t have these feelings during the school year so much, but I always feel I am missing out on summers. So we cram a lot into the weekend and after work so we can experience “summer” as a family. We also try to make a list of things we want to do so that August doesn’t come around and we say “we didn’t do anything we wanted to do!”
The list is usually things like:
- BBQ for dinner (also that means I don’t have too cook bc I refuse to learn how to grill!)
- Fro yo or ice cream date
- Cardinals game
- Concert in the park
- Fishing
- Etc.
So tell me, what are some of your fave summer activities that can fit into a weekend or weeknight?!
We are going to find JOY in summer and make the most of it – whatever it looks like around here these days with teenagers!
